Paracas National Reserve: This reserve is located in the Province of Pisco, Department of Ica. This singular area situated in the middle of the coastal desert, borders with one of the world´s richest seas. Its purpose is to protect and take care of the animal species in danger of extinction. Paracas National Reserve is the only protected area in Peru which contains a marine ecosystem within its boundaries. From the Port of Paracas, excursions by boat are regularly organized to the Ballestas Islands, where one can have a very close look at sea dogs, penguins of Humboldt, flamingos or “parihuanas” and sea birds.

Ballestas Islands: Every day, tours on barges leave very early from the jetty “El Chaco”, to the Ballestas Islands, offering a pleasant tourist circuit. It´s forbidden to go off the boat during the tour, but you can enjoy it all from the bow of the boat, as hundreds of sea birds occupy salient crevices and esplanades, the fine sea dogs are playing with the waves and the aristocratic penguins of Humboldt, walking in line ´till they plunge into the sea.

Chandelier: Also known as “Tres Cruces” (Three Crosses) or “Tridente” (Trident), the Chandelier is a design composed of a series of lines furrowed onto a rocky mountain slope and which looks like a 120 meter high chandelier. Its origin is unknown, as is that of the Nazca Lines, although it might have served as a warning for navigators, due to the contrasting white lines upon the darker colored surrounding terrain. It´s located North-east of the Bay of Paracas, between the Martín and Talpo beaches.

Huacachina´s Lagoon: It´s situated 5 km. (about 10 minutes by car) South-east of the city of Ica. The lagoon is a natural tourist attraction which offers waters with healing properties, as well as the most beautiful landscapes. It´s surrounded by high sand dunes, palm trees and old “huarangos”.

Buggy and sand board experience in the desert: This expedition lasts about 2 hours and will take us through the Ica Desert. It´s a thrilling circuit which gives you adrenaline kicks on each one of its dunes. Midway along, you´ll have the chance to practice going down the sand dunes on sand boards. On our way back, we´ll be able to see the majestuous sunset on the desert. This excursion includes sand boards, driver and guide.

Nazca Lines: The ancient inhabitants of the Nazca Culture have left us with a valuable archaeological heritage composed of a huge network of lines and designs of animals and plants, situated between km. 419 and 455 of the South Pan-American Road. This network covers an area of approximately 350 km².

The flight over the Nazca Lines is an unforgettable experience. There also is a 12 meter high watch tower from which one can see the designs of “The Hand” and “The Tree”.

Cemetery of Chauchilla: This cemetery of the Inca-Chincha Culture, hides real mummies dug out by grave diggers and thieves, as illegal excavations exposed them to the weather and dispersed pieces of bones, of skeletons, ancient fabrics, fragments of pottery, funerary ropes, etc, upon the desert´s sands. Twelve rectangular graves, built with large sun dried mud bricks (adobes), are exposed so that the visitors might see skeletons and mummies with long hair (approximately 3 meters long).
